Starting up a business is no child’s play, it all starts with a vision or a dream. 1. Business requirements:
It is important to understand the requirements of the business. This could be money, operations, marketing, HR or any other skills or entity that are actually required to build and survive in the business.
2. Assessing capabilities:
Differentiate between your capabilities and what you think are/ are not your capabilities. Clarifying this will give economic and emotional benefit in the future. Also the visionary must understand that time is limited, so capabilities must also be prioritized and some could be passed on.
3. Gap analysis and synergy:
Find the gap between business requirement and your own contributing capabilities. Then the Gap could be categorized into buckets which would be filled by different cofounders. It is vital to get a cofounder who is equitably passionate and have the right capabilities to build synergy from the collaboration.
The above 3 steps will bring clarity about your needs and hence will refine your further action.
4. Searching the right folks:
This is the most difficult part. Scouting through online forums are mere waste of time and fatal for business as you might get some scripted pitches. Offline scouting is recommended as it might help you understand their spontaneous mind, which could be through networks, friend circles and colleagues(present and former).
5. Defining roles:
Finalize the role which each individual would be playing or why their contribution matters, however this must happen without 12-20 lines job description.
6. Team building:
It is important for the team to conduct frequent team building activities to understand each other and build the right connect for making the next big company.
